Counselling services for children and families

  • Gatehouse is funded to provide free and voluntary therapeutic counselling, support and advocacy for children aged 0–17, who have experienced sexual harm or engaged in harmful or problematic sexual behaviour, and their non-offending parents or carers.

Sexual assault counselling, support and advocacy

Gatehouse clinicians provide specialised sexual assault counselling to children aged 0–17 who have experienced sexual assault, and their non-offending families.

Therapeutic services help children to understand their experience, how it has affected them and how to manage difficult and often confusing feelings. These services also help parents and caregivers to process their child’s experience and feelings, and to support families to keep children safe from harm and reduce the negative effects of their experiences.

Gatehouse does not investigate whether sexual assault has or hasn't occurred and will always believe a child or young person's disclosure.

Harmful sexual behaviour counselling and support

Gatehouse clinicians provide specialist therapeutic services to children aged up to 17 years who have engaged in sexually harmful/problematic behaviour, and their family members. These services provide a safe and non-judgmental space for children and young people and their family members to understand and process the behaviour, to manage difficult and often confusing feelings and to support families to help children learn about and understand how to participate in safe, respectful, and consensual relationships and behaviours.

Gatehouse does not investigate whether sexually harmful behaviour has or hasn't occurred.
